New Volunteer Opportunity

EWB-USA’s Engineering Service Corps (ESC) is recruiting four structural/construction volunteers for hurricane recovery assistance in Dominica. Volunteers will work closely with the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) team to assist in expanding the government’s capability to oversee the reconstruction process and add capacity to its existing technical support staff.
Position: Structural/Construction Volunteer Recovery Assistance
Location: Roseau and various locations in Dominica
Start date: March 1, 2018 (tentative)
Duration: 4-week assignments followed by 1-2 weeks of remote support work
Primary Responsibilities
  • Assist with the development and delivery of housing construction training workshops
  • Perform quality assurance reviews of the structural assessments being carried out
  • Proactively work with the wider recovery community on knowledge and information sharing
  • Ensure proper oversight of housing construction
  • Perform inspections of building repair
Volunteer Criteria
  • Member of EWB-USA
  • Structural or construction background; familiar with concrete, concrete block and wood frame construction of small to medium-size structures
  • Experience in seismic/wind design
  • Experience mentoring
  • Experience with building inspection process is an advantage
  • Structural engineering experience in the developing world is an advantage
  • P.E. is an advantage
